NCIS

I miss my friends in Thailand very much. One of them, Y., loves watching NCIS, so I started watching it too, just so I could feel we were doing something together, even though she's there and I'm here. I began at the first episode of the first season, and I'm now at the 15th episode of the 10th season.

Usually I do not approve of the way grieving or bereaved people are portrayed in it: they are either too restrained or too focused on seeking revenge . No one disintegrates or falls apart due to prolonged crying, for example.
The current season had some moments I approved of, for a change.
In episode seven, which is the second part of two episodes describing dealing with post-trauma, there was a moment between two brothers, who both served as Marines in Afghanistan.
In episode eight, a teenager who just lost her father, asks Ziva (one of the main characters), who lost two of her siblings years ago, how to cope.
In episode twelve, after Ziva loses her father as well, Tony (another main character) comes to say good bye to her, before she boards a plane taking her and her father from the USA to Israel for burial.

Yes, sometimes we need to hear that we're not alone (This is what Tony is telling Ziva, in Hebrew).
And yes: you don't get over, you get through. And yes, friends do help, but you have to allow yourself to lean on them first.
And yes, sometimes people react differently to the same situation or to similar ones, and you have to accept both that they are as they are, and that you are as you are.
